Why Should He Believe?

May 8th, 2009 1 comment

Friday at last. This weekend Noah is getting Christened. I’m looking forward to it as a time when the family will come together to officially celebrate the arrival our boy. Though, it’s only going to be a very small affair, which is good I think. Also, our place is only very very tiny, so it seems practical too.

It still feels unbelievable that I’m a dad. It still hasn’t sunk in that this little boy is my son… it’s very strange to say and even write that down.

I need water…

I think I suck at blogging.

So why have Noah Christened? It’s a question I have asked myself, but am unable to answer convincingly. It seems strange to cast a baby into a ‘religion’ without them knowing anything about it. And the ritual? Christening, or baptism, and the water on the baby’s head symbolises a fresh start and the washing away of sins. What sins could a baby have committed!?! Read more…

I’m still here

April 5th, 2009 No comments

Just a post to let you all know that yes, I am still here. I have just been a bit busy lately. My wife gave birth to a beautiful baby boy a little while ago, Noah.

We’re both thrilled and love just looking at him (moreso when he quiet and looking back than when he’s screaming for something to eat or because he has to burp/fart). He’s so small and cuddly and has a cool little mo-hawk. The jury’s still out on who he looks like more, though people are now saying he’s starting to look a bit like me! Poor guy.

How to get your girlfriend into PlayStation

March 19th, 2009 No comments

PlayStation 3Let’s face it. The harsh reality is that there isn’t a lot of female gamers out there. There are some. They certainly do exists. They’re just not very common. So, when you are with your girlfriend or wife and you want to play some PlayStation, it’s going to be a little bit difficult to do so without making her feel left out, or unloved.

The solution? Get them to play PlayStation with you! Some might argue that PlayStation is a ‘guy thing’, or a personal thing and shouldn’t be mixed with women – that is, ‘PS3 time is me time’. Ok, that’s their opinion, and they’re entitled to it. But wouldn’t it be great to be able to say “hey honey, let’s play some PlayStation“, and to hear in reply “Sure! Sounds like fun!”… one can dream.

Sony, and other developers, have tried to help us introduce the wonders of the PlayStation with games such as Buzz, Singstar and LittleBigPlanet, and now Home too. These games are a fantastic way to get your girl gaming. But, alas, this won’t really encourage her to play games you might be into like Call of Duty, Killzone 2 or Resident Evil 5, which you might want to play on your own or online.

Don’t get confused about our real objective here. We’re not really going to get (or want) our girls to sit down want to PlayStation pro-actively – not too much anyway. We want her to get and appreciation for the subtleties of gaming and just how much fun it can be. As a result, your girlfriend or wife will hopefully gain a better understanding of why you want to play your PlayStation so much.

As you can see, there is no silver bullet for getting your girlfriend or wife into PlayStation. But, hopefully, with some light-hearted, fun games you’ll be able to share your PlayStation occasionally and the other times, you will be able to get some ‘hardcore’ game time in without feeling too guilty… maybe.

Good luck to all like minded adventurers.

Welcome to my new blog

January 14th, 2009 No comments

I’ve just launched this brand new shiny blog site. The aim of this site is to be a place for me to vent whatever is on my mind. At the moment, there will be plenty of blogs about jTips, my life, and my work.

jTips is my own webware project that I have developed for the Joomla! CMS framework. I won’t go into it in too much detail here since it will get its own dedicated page soon enough. However, I better present the gist. jTips is a sports tipping solution that is installed and run by you, on your website. You control what sport(s) you want to run, you control how the points are allocated, you control how it looks. Basically, “your rules, your website, your way” – that’s the tag line :)

My life is changing, and quickly! I am recently married, and my wife, Rhiannon, is the lovliest person there is, and, she is pregnant with our child! We’re due to be first-time parents at the end of March this year, so things will get very hectic, very quickly. This part of my blog will serve kind of as a diary I guess. Outlining my day-to-day challenges and triumphs about everything a married dad faces… should be fun.

My work. This blog will serve two purposes with respect to my working life. 1 – if something happens at work that I feel like blogging about, or I get bored one day, I will blog. 2 – this blog will act as a portfolio. It will be linked to from other profiles like facebook, LinkedIn and maybe other things like twitter, and will showcase my achievements in the working world (though jTips is a massive achievement in itself).

So that’s it. That’s my goal with this blog. I am Jeremy Roberts. Husband, Dad, Developer, Entrepreneur. This is my blog.

Where you go from here, is a choice I leave to you.
